Ash Wednesday…

Pastor Dee delivered his Ash Wednesday sermon this evening at Parkview United Methodist Church. Here’s what he had to say…

“Those people are partying like there’s no tomorrow.”

That’s a familiar cliche, usually used in a disparaging sense as if people were living their last few hours in complete abandon because it will be their last time to party.

The ironic truth is that if people were literally aware that this day would be there last, they would behave differently. It would be more accurate to say that they are living as if “there will always be tomorrow.”

A history of Valentine’s Day…

Welcome to the brand new Parkview United Methodist Church blog. We’ll start off (appropriately enough) with a sermon from our own Pastor Dee. He waxed poetic from the pulpit today about the history of Valentine’s Day (again — appropriately enough) and the following is an excerpt of what he had to say.

You may have wondered from time to time if Valentine’s Day has anything at all to do with Christian faith.

I’d heard years ago that there was a St. Valentine, so OK, there must have been something from way back.

Turns out that St. Valentine was a Bishop in Italy in the third century.
